On October 25, the varsity soccer team played in the first game of the District playoffs. They faced the Solon Comets, who were looking to avenge their 3-0 loss to the Eagles earlier in the regular season. However, the Eagles prevailed again, 2-0, on two goals by senior captain Pat Murray and two assists by senior captain Kevin Spackman.
This win provided some momentum for the team after a 3-0 loss on October 17 to Cathedral Prep (Erie, PA) to conclude the regular season. Prior to this loss, the Eagles had held the seventh ranked team in the state, Toledo St. Francis, to a 0-0 tie, bolstering their confidence as they prepared for the state tournament.
On October 8, the team faced the North Royalton Bears on the road and recorded a dominating 3-1 win with goals by senior Drew English and juniors Cody Yanniello and Josh Mueller.
Now, with the regular season behind them, the Eagles are looking to advance further into the playoffs. With a first-round victory over Solon, the team now prepares for a match against Shaker Heights on October 28 (results not available at time of publication). If the Eagles defeat Shaker Heights, they would play defending state champion St. Ignatius in the district final on Saturday night. The soccer team would look forward to the opportunity to upset the number one ranked team in the nation and hopes to continue its run deep into the state tournament.
