Under the direction of Robert W. Burns, the Edwardian Players will perform four performances of the musical comedy, Do Black Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?, December 3-6. Evening performances will start at 7:30 and a Sunday matinee performance will begin at 2:00.
Based on the book by John R. Powers, the story revolves around eight children and their experiences through the Catholic educational system during the 1950’s. The show follows the students from elementary school to Senior Prom and focuses on the relationship that forms between the leads, Eddie Ryan (played by Luke Kollin ’12) and Becky Bakowski (played by Magnificat senior, Emily Lynch).
The show captures the funniest aspects of youthful growing pains, highlighting the 1950’s Catholic perspective on everything from praying to the patron saints to not touching one’s “private parts.” This may be inappropriate for younger children, but the confusion the characters have with these views is a major part of the humor in the show.
