School has only been in session for a few weeks, but the Golf Team is more than halfway done with their season. The 2009 Varsity team has started the season at a high level. Their top finish thus far has come at Punderson, where the Eagles took second place out of fifteen schools. According to ace junior golfer Zach Champa, “This year’s team has a shot to go to the state tournament.”
Zach also said that if the team can play with consistency in future tournaments, they could have the momentum to succeed in the latter part of the season.
Zach is clearly confident about this year’s roster which features consistent teammates like senior Mike Ols and sophomore prodigy Brian Bir. Sectionals start the first week in October, and the team is gearing up for a challenging road ahead.
The JV Green and Gold teams are improving and preparing future varsity golf squads at St. Ed’s. JV Gold star Mike Schwartz ’11, along with brothers Tom Wilson ’10 and Chris Wilson ’12, are the team leaders. They helped the JV squad capture second place in the Kenston Invitational, take seventh in the varsity Kenston tournament, and post a 1-1 record against St. Ignatius.
